kingsolver11“Animal, Vegetable, Miracle- A Year of Food Life” by Barbara Kingsolver.  (Yep- the same lady who wrote “The Poisonwood Bible” which made the short list for the Pultizer.)

The author and her family moved from Arizona back to the Appalachain mountains in VA (not far from either my current home in NC or my last one in KY) to live on a family farm.  They continued their daily work and school lives- and spent a year paying attention to where their food came from by eating (almost exclusively) a diet of food they either raised themselves and/or bought locally.

I’m about half way through the book and am really enjoying reading about her family’s experiences and learning more about the lost arts of cooking, gardening and the importance/value of local food.

For a taste (pun intended) of what the book is about, check out this interview on Youtube:
